Governor Kristi Noem signed an executive order for South Dakota at a National Rifle Association event in Indiana. Noem wants to prohibit the state from contracting with financial institutions that refuse to do business with firearm-related entities.

A federal judge temporarily blocked a federal rule in South Dakota and 23 other states that is intended to protect thousands of small streams, wetlands, and other waterways. The ruling halts the regulations from the EPA and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers pending the outcome of a lawsuit filed by the 24 states.

Attorney General Marty Jackley said testimony by a victim strengthened the sexual abuse case involving a former legislative candidate. Joel Koskan was sentenced to 10 years in prison Tuesday.

Heavy snowfall this winter raised flood probability in parts of South Dakota. Now, rivers have crested, lakes are filling, and communities are putting their flood plans into action.

The city of Brookings is inviting residents to plant trees around town for little-to-no-cost as part of the Brookings Urban Forest Initiative. This is the third year Brookings has invested in the program.
