A house panel is advancing a bill that prevents certain healthcare for transgender youth. Backers say the bill is imperative to protect South Dakota kids. Critics say it could bring many unintended consequences.

A bill to make unmarried fathers equally responsible for medical bills for a pregnancy has been unanimously passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee. Senate Bill 75, requested by Governor Kristi Noem, amends an older bill to include medical expenses before and after the birth and provides for additional legal remedies

Senate Bill 74 sets out a process for counties to join together to build and operate regional jails. The proposed legislation responds to summer study findings that jail and prison space is inadequate, especially in rural areas.

Las Vegas police have arrested former actor Nathan Chasing Horse. This comes after uncovering what they describe as two decades of sexual assault and human trafficking allegations. Chasing Horse is known for his role in the Oscar-winning Kevin Costner film “Dances With Wolves.”
