On today's update...

As some parts of the state clear out from the first winter storm of 2023, others are just getting started. The state Department of transportation has marked most of the roads in the southern part of the state as either “No Travel Advised” or closed entirely.

A multitude of factors are straining humane societies in the Black Hills. Some of the causes are issues that helped define 2022—the pandemic, housing and inflation.

Efforts to increase South Dakota’s supply of affordable housing in 2022 were slowed by inflation and rising interest rates.

Congress is greenlighting South Dakota’s plan to purchase 266 acres of land around the Gilt Edge Mine superfund site. The December omnibus bill, now law, contains language directing the U.S. Forest Service to sell the parcel to the state.

Startup Sioux Falls is piloting an expanded training program for entrepreneurs thanks to a one million dollar grant from the U-S Small Business Administration.

And more.
