A preliminary storm summary from the National Weather Service in Aberdeen reports five tornadoes touched down in the state on Thursday. The tornadoes accompanied the derecho that ripped through eastern South Dakota and southwest Minnesota.

A baby formula shortage is at a critical point in South Dakota and only exacerbated by panic buying.

A Sioux Falls man charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance is challenging the traffic stop that led to his arrest. Alex Olin Johnson made his case before the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday.

The ongoing drought in South Dakota has been hard on the state’s wildlife. The U.S. Forest Service says the grouse population in the Fort Pierre National Grassland has declined by 15% in 2022, largely because of the dry conditions.
