A House panel is defeating a bill that would establish a recreational marijuana program.
South Dakota residents voted to legalize recreational marijuana in 2020. The ballot question was rejected in the courts.

A state House committee is killing a resolution that would have asked voters to legalize mobile sports betting in the state. The resolution proposed a ballot measure on an amendment to the South Dakota Constitution. The amendment would have authorized wagering on sporting events using cellphones or other electronic platforms.

A lawmaker is promoting construction of a long debated four-lane highway between Yankton and Norfolk, Nebraska, citing the recent availability of federal money.

Recent snowfall has done little to change the flood outlook in South Dakota. Most of the state faces a below normal chance of flooding along rivers and lakes.

Pierre High School is the winner of South Dakota’s first-ever team state title in girls wrestling. This was the second year of sanctioned girls wrestling in South Dakota, but the first year that a team title was awarded.
