A bill that prevents transgender girl athletes from participating in girls’ sports is clearing a significant hurdle in the state legislature. It passed a senate committee where a similar bill failed last year.

Numerous bills relating to transgender issues have been proposed at this year’s legislative session that started this week.

South Dakota lawmakers will not put any COVID-19 mitigation efforts in place for their annual legislative session, at least for now.

Governor Kristi Noem says she will recognize “natural immunity” in a bill to exempt people from COVID-19 vaccine mandates. But medical studies and a South Dakota doctor say prior infection does not protect as well as getting vaccinated and boosted.

Six members of the National Guard are helping test people for COVID-19 at a second drive-through clinic in Rapid City. Monument Health is opening the new site in response to the highest testing demand and positivity rate since the pandemic began.
