The search for solutions: Long-term care & underride crashes

On today's show...

We mourn the closing of JoDean’s Steakhouse and Lounge in Yankton with SDPB's Zadya Abbott.

Tim Rave, president and CEO of the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations, gives an update on long-term care in South Dakota. How did we get here? And how do we better serve our aging population?

We'll then speak with PBS FRONTLINE correspondent and co-producer A.C. Thompson about a preventable problem.

Underride accidents occur when a smaller vehicle gets crushed beneath a semi-truck trailer. Thompson says these accidents are a microcosm of a common issue on the road. Regulators know how to keep drivers safer, but lobbying from powerful automotive entities keep safety changes at bay.

Rebecca Bailey from the South Dakota Shakespeare Festivalpreviews all the fun events happening at the weeklong celebration. She also discusses falling in love with Shakespeare as an adult when the bard no longer graced her homework list.

Plus, we catch up with singer-songwriter Jen Howard. She's returning to the road after a pandemic-induced hiatus and will perform at the Red Rooster Coffee House in Aberdeen on June 14.

Jackie is based out of SDPB's Sioux Falls Studio.
Ellen Koester is a producer of In the Moment, SDPB's daily news and culture broadcast.
