Essentials for every music collection

From time to time, Larry Rohrer and David Hersrud hear this question from their listeners: "I can’t buy everything you cover, so what is the music I absolutely have to purchase?”

Back in the early 70s, Hersrud was doing some freelance writing for a Chicago music publication. There, he started a column called "The Ultimate Music Library."

It centered on the albums every music lover had to have in their collection.

Today, he and Rohrer are starting a new Ultimate Music Library with current hits and hidden gems.

Larkin Poe: “Blood Harmony”
Larkin Poe was originally a bluegrass/Americana band called The Lovell Sisters. Jessica Lovell was engaged to be married and wanted to attend college. Her sisters, Megan and Rebecca, decided to continue their music career by taking the name of their great, great, great, great grandfather, who happened to be related to Edgar Allan Poe.

Larkin Poe has become a major festival draw with appearances at Glastonbury, Bonnaroo, Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Music Festival and Lollapalooza.

"Blood Harmony" came out in November.

Boygenius: "The Record"
Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus individually are three of the best singer-songwriters in the game today. They met as fans of each other's music and found a musical environment so productive that some may think they would rather make music together.

Larry, although retired as Assistant General Manager for SDPB, continues to write, host, and do media production and voice work for SDPB.
