South Dakota’s National Guard is sending 110 soldiers to Romania as part of Operation Resolute Castle, a training exercise with other countries.
The operation is conducted every year in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve. It provides training opportunities for soldiers to work with NATO engineers, completing construction projects across Europe.
The projects are completed to improve cooperation between military units.
The soldiers sent are part of the 155th Engineer Company based in Wagner and Parkston. They will complete three construction projects over three weeks, including repairs for roads, moving armored targets and improving artillery ranges.
Resolute Castle alternates between host countries Romania and Poland. The National Guard says the operation helps deter aggression and support allies and NATO partners.
