Oglala Sioux Tribe President Arrested In Rapid City

Oglala Sioux Tribe President Julian Bear Runner was arrested in Rapid City Nov. 7th.

Police were dispatched to Cheers Sports Bar and Casino in North Rapid City for a report of an unwanted subject who was fighting with private security. The business requested Bear Runner be removed after causing a disturbance. Rapid City Police Department arrested Bear Runner for Failure to Vacate and was taken to the Pennington County Jail.

Bear Runner will appear in Pennington County Court Nov. 9th.

He recently lost his bid for re-election as president to Kevin Killer.

Bear Runner is the youngest president to be elected but his presidency has been plagued with controversy. He was charged with driving drunk and verbally assaulting another person. He was suspended by the Tribal Council after they couldn’t get ahold him when Bear Runner issued a 72-hour lockdown due to the Coronavirus. Bear Runner is also accused of inappropriate behavior with a teen.
