The Lincoln County Commission is considering a $50 million bond to help build a new public safety center.
The new facility, which would include a new jail and courtroom, is in the beginning stages of development.
Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Swenson said that the county’s growing population calls for a new public safety facility.
"I want to say, 20 years ago, the population of Lincoln County was 22,000," Swenson said. "Now, we’re servicing a population of over 60,000 and the current courthouse is at maximum capacity.”
Felony case filings in the county have grown by 200% since 2009.
A series of town meetings are being held across Lincoln County in the month of March for the public to ask about the new facility.
