FEMA to close recovery centers in Sioux Falls, Yankton

FEMA

FEMA is closing two disaster recovery centers in Sioux Falls and Yankton on Saturday evening due to a decline in people needing assistance.

Those in the area still in need of aid can request help after Saturday either online or over the phone.

Pam Saulsby is a Media Relations Specialist for FEMA. She says she’s happy so many people get the opportunity to seek aid face-to-face at a recovery center.

"Since those centers opened, the one in Sioux Falls and the one in Yankton, we have helped over 250 people at those location get the assistance they need, and of course, inside the mobile disaster recovery centers as well," says Saulsby. "There are representatives from the state of South Dakota, representatives from FEMA, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and other organizations who are active in responding to disasters.”

Saulsby says mobile disaster recovery centers are being set up in Hutchison and Turner counties in the coming weeks.

A center that was originally supposed to be closed in Charles Mix county on Thursday will now stay open until July 19th
