In 1986, when a massive explosion destroyed Reactor No.4 at Chernobyl, crews endeavored to combat the contamination with a hastily constructed containment structure. The solution came with a deadline: The structure would fail in 30 years, sending another deadly radioactive cloud over Europe. A new NOVA special looks at the international effort to deal with the new crisis. We talk with filmmaker Chris Schmidt about “NOVA: Building Chernobyl’s Mega Tomb.”
