New Book About Laura Ingalls Wilder Is In The Works

The South Dakota State Historical Society is releasing a new book next year on the legacy of Laura Ingalls Wilder. It builds on “Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography,” published in 2014.

The Director of the South Dakota State Historical Society Press , Nancy Tystad Koupal, says “Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography” was a surprise success. She says the new book “Pioneer Girl Perspectives: Exploring Laura Ingalls Wilder” will look at the author through a number of different lenses to examine why her work is compelling and why she is so popular.

“Here’s this woman’s first attempt to write her life story,” Koupal says. “It’s a straightforward memoir that eventually will become eight Little House novels. How did we get from here to there, and what does the publication of ‘Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography’ tell us how we got from here to there? What does it add to the scholarship? Where can we go from here now that we have this piece that we didn’t have before?”

Koupal says the book contains a number of different perspectives to help better understand the life and work of Laura Ingalls Wilder.
