Dakota Midday: Requiem For Good Friday
Dan Graber and Jack Mohlenhoff discuss an upcoming service of a funeral mass for the dead in recognition of the Christian Good Friday. On the Friday before Easter, Christians gather around the cross and remember the death of Jesus of Nazareth. Mohlenhoff and Graber are leading a combined service in Sioux Falls with a choir of more than 70 volunteers in Gabriel Fauré's Requiem. We discuss the “lullaby to death” that Faure called his mass, as well as the challenges of working in the centuries-old profession of church choir director.
