Deadwood Gaming Revenue Up

Deadwood’s April gaming revenue jumped almost four percent over the same time last year. Officials say a break in the weather after a long winter helped fuel the increase. Mike Rodman of the Deadwood Gaming Association says this is good news for the northern Black Hills.

“After almost seven months I believe that we were down in gaming revenues it’s certainly is welcome relief to the operators and also to city government that depends on gaming revenues the tax revenues to fund their programs as well. So it’s certainly been received very positively, and we think that this is the beginning of what we hope is going to be a strong summer season for us,” says Rodman.

Rodman says a new marketing campaign run in partnership with the South Dakota Department of Tourism has also boosted revenue. He says the campaign is targeting new markets such as Omaha, Nebraska and Des Moines, Iowa.
