Pledge of Allegiance Bill Passes House Committee

The House State Affairs Committee passed House Bill 1150 on Wednesday, requiring public schools to recite the Pledge of Allegiance at the beginning of each school day. Republican State Representative Hal Wick says this legislation is a change from what the state currently has in place for a law.

"It is no longer the right to recite but each school district shall provide students with the opportunity to salute the United States and the flag each day by reciting the pledge of allegiance to the flag," Wick says.

Wick says students who don’t wish to participate will not be forced to. He says those not participating can simply sit quietly and wait until the other students have completed the Pledge of Allegiance. House Bill 1150 passed the House State Affairs committee unanimously and it goes next to the House floor.
