Icy Rain in Northeast SD

Residents in far northeast South Dakota woke up to slippery sidewalks and icy roads Monday morning.

Taylor Trogdon is a Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Aberdeen. He says the rain was confined mostly to the far northeast corner of the state, in Roberts and Grant Counties. He says even though the surface temps weren’t very cold, the ground temps were below freezing. Trogdon says that created some problems, even with the small amount of rain the area received.

“It’s pretty much been on the order of five hundredths or less, so .05 which really isn’t anything. But like I said pretty much all of that has frozen on contact which is why we had so many issues,” Trogdon says.

Trogdon says northeast South Dakota can expect more wintery weather over the next couple of days. He forecasts two to four inches of snow for the area beginning early Tuesday morning.
