Veterans Honored In Sioux Falls

Nate Wek

Members of South Dakota's congressional delegation are traveling around the state to say thank you to the men and women who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces. Congresswoman Kristi Noem and Senator John Thune were present in Sioux Falls.

Congresswoman Noem and Senator Thune stopped at the annual Veteran's Day ceremony at Lincoln High school in Sioux Falls.  Joining Thune and Noem were members of the Sioux Falls City Council.   Senator Thune says Veteran's Day is an important day for the United States.

"It’s a day when we as Americans say thank you to the people who give us the opportunity to live in a place that’s free, that’s secure, where we are at peace," Thune says. "And that doesn’t come without a tremendous amount of sacrifice and the veterans in this country, our hometown hero’s who have served and sacrificed to give us the country that we have today. We owe [them] an incredible debt of gratitude."

Thune says he enjoys ceremonies that honor military members because it's a special occasion for everyone attending. During the ceremony, veterans stand when their branch of military theme music plays. Senator Thune says it's heart warming to see all the local heroes stand with honor on Veteran's Day. He says Americans should thank service men and women every day for their service because without them, our freedom isn't possible.
