Law Enforcement and Fire Officials responded to a fire on Douglas Road in Box Elder early Tuesday morning. Authorities say despite extensive damage, four people including two children escaped without injury.
Box Elder Police Chief Jason Dubbs says the investigation is continuing, but authorities believe the fire began outside the home and quickly spread.
“It spread to the home. Two vehicles were fully engulfed and they are a total loss. The home was irreparably damaged by the fire and the home immediately to the east was also damaged,” says Dubbs.
Dubbs says no other structures were in immediate danger. He says a joint investigation into the cause of the fire is being coordinated by the Box Elder Police Department, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, and the State Fire Marshall’s Office. Box Elder sits just outside Rapid City near the Ellsworth Air Force Base.
