Thune Plans Amendment To Water Bill

The United States Senate is currently debating The Water Resources Development Act.  Senator John Thune plans to bring an amendment forward on the bill this week.
Thune spoke Wednesday on behalf of the measure. The main focal point revolves around issues with the Army Corps of Engineers, along with management of lakes, rivers and dams. Thune says this act is typically something that is done every several years for the purpose of re-authorization. He says he has plans to propose an amendment.

"This week I plan to introduce an amendment that would prevent the Army Corps of Engineers from implementing a proposal that’s put forward to restrict access to Missouri River waters. And to charge users for surplus water taken out of the Missouri River reservoirs in South Dakota, North Dakota and Montana," Senator Thune says.

Thune says along with the Water Resource Development Act, he is hoping to get a Farm Bill passed again by the Senate. Last year the Farm bill passed the senate but was halted in the House of Representatives. Thune says he will continue efforts to give the bill bipartisan support.
