Lawmaker Resigns

The southeast corner of the state is minus one lawmaker.

Republican State Representative  Patty Miller has resigned her seat in the legislature citing personal reasons and family needs.    She has served in the Statehouse since 2011.

“I unfortunately need to resign. I’ve love serving it’s been wonderful.  And, I’ve really enjoyed all of the other the legislators in both parties you just develop wonderful, wonderful friendships and relationships.  So I’m sad to leave but you have to do what you have to do,” says Miller.

Miller would not indicate specifics on the reason for leaving the legislature, only saying that family must come first.

The resignation leaves an open seat in District 16 located in the far South East corner of the state.

Governor Dennis Daugaard is looking to appoint a new state lawmaker.

The Governor is asking members of the public to nominate candidates to fill the position.
