Accident Sends Three Teens To Rapid City Hospital

The Rapid City Police Department kept busy over the President’s Day holiday weekend.  Law enforcement officials say there were at least fifteen DUI arrests.  Police responded to one accident in North Rapid City where three teens who had been drinking alcohol crashed the car they were driving.

Rapid City Police Department Community Relations Specialist Tarah Heupel says the vehicle was literally torn in half.

“They hit three parked cars and then wrapped the vehicle around a tree.  When officers arrived the back bumper of the car was touching the front bumper of the car and all three people were trapped in the front seat.  Paramedics responded and were able to get all three subjects out of the vehicle, they were all transported to the hospital,” says Heupel.

Nineteen-year-old Corina Sitting Bear of Rapid City was driving the car at the time of the accident.  She faces several charges including DUI, vehicular battery, and reckless driving.  Sitting Bear was also driving with a suspended license.  Two passengers in the car were eighteen and fifteen years old.  All three were cited for underage drinking and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  Officials say the investigation continues.
