Daugaard: No Insurance Exchange

Governor Dennis Daugaard is reaffirming his decision to keep South Dakota out of an insurance exchange under the federal Affordable Care Act.

Daugaard says he is very skeptical the federal government can afford to implement the act.  He says Washington can't continue to spend more money than it brings in.

"By all indications the federal government is absolutely done by the seat of the pants day after day so I am really disappointed by that," says Daugaard.

Meanwhile, South Dakota Democrats say the governor raises legitimate concerns, but there may be come solutions to the problems when it comes to health care.

Democrats say they are encouraged the Affordable Care Act may help the working poor in South Dakota get health coverage for the first time.   Governor Daugaard says he worries about what he calls an increasing march towards the dependence of citizens.  He says he supports some safety programs - but he doesn't want to see those programs be the only way people support themselves.
