Rapid City School Violence Threat Investigated

Law enforcement and school officials in Rapid City say they are working together to investigate a potential threat of school violence.

Over the weekend, law enforcement received information about a potential threat of violence in a Rapid City School.

Captain Marty Graves with the Rapid City Police Department says the information was acquired through social media sites and a team of detectives is aggressively investigating all leads.

Graves says there is no specific threat made at this time against any particular school in Rapid City.  He says law enforcement still take this issue very seriously.

“The reality of the world we live in, these things do happen.  So, we take every bit of this information doesn’t matter how minute one may believe this information is—that we take it serious.  And we’re going to follow up and we’re going to look into it and we’re going to do what we can to make sure that school safety is a top priority for law enforcement and for school administrators,” says Graves.

Law enforcement officials say they will continue actively pursuing this investigation, although the information has not been substantiated at this time.

Officials are asking anyone with information that may be useful to the investigation to contact law enforcement at (605) 394-4131.
