Department Of Social Services Has $25 Million To Spend On Childcare Support

Childcare

The Department of Social Services is receiving $25-million in federal Coronavirus relief funding to help struggling families. The money supports grants to stabilize childcare businesses so parents can go back to work or school.

Laurie Gill is with the Department of Social Services. She says the grants have flexible uses.

“They can use this to help pay childcare staff wages. They can use it for operating costs such as if they have rental costs, utilities, the food for the children, cleaning supplies, those kinds of things. And then if there are COVID-related expenses we can cover; they can use the dollars for those things.”

The state will contact eligible providers about the opportunity. Childcare business owners will have until July 23rd to submit their applications for funding.
