For one shop in Rapid City, guitar sales have been solid since the start of COVID
This interview is from SDPB's daily public-affairs show, In the Moment, hosted by Lori Walsh.
A lot of people took up new hobbies during the isolation phase of the COVID-19 and a lot of them picked up guitars. Some renewed their passion with the purchase of a second or third guitar, but many bought guitars for the first time. A person with enough money might choose an expensive vintage guitar… but are those high-end instruments really worth it?
SDPB’s Brian Gevik has been working on a TV documentary on the subject of old guitars and the musicians who love them.
We talk about the effect of the pandemic on guitar sales, the demographics of the buyers, why buying a high-end guitar might or might not be a good idea for a beginner, and why vintage guitars aren’t always what they’re cracked up to be.
The SDPB documentary “Old Guitars and the Local Musicians Who Love Them,” will have its broadcast premiere on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 8:00 pm CT / 9:00 pm MT on SDPB1
