Jami Lynn and Andrew Reinartz: A Sparse Collaboration

In May, South Dakota singer/songwriter Jami Lynn joined the JAS Quintet for the concert series Lady Day: The Life and Blues of Billie Holiday. Although Lynn is best known for her work in folk and Americana, the performances with the Sioux Falls-based combo gave her the opportunity to show her jazz chops.

A few days after the concerts, Lynn and members of the JAS Quintet got together again to record  Sparse, a six track album of jazz standards and originals, including a pair of songs from the Billie Holiday songbook. It's a collaboration with quintet bassist Andrew Reinartz, who also played on Lynn's 2015 album, Fall is a Good Time to Die.

Jami Lynn and Andrew Reinartz are celebrating the release of Sparse with a Friday evening concert at the Matthews Opera House and Arts Center in Spearfish. It's the third concert in the Club Matthews series.

Lynn and Reinartz joined Jazz Nightly and discussed the album and their collaboration.
