Avera is broadening behavioral services at locations in Sioux Falls and Aberdeen.

In Sioux Falls, a new space will offer 16 additional beds for adult care. These single, private rooms are being added to the Helmsley Behavioral Health Center facility, Avera officials said.

The new space in Aberdeen will house 18 private beds for adults and senior citizens. A youth-oriented crisis stabilization space will also be included.

Both spaces will be funded with grant dollars at a cost of $7.2 million, according to Avera. The Aberdeen facility is receiving $2.4 million in funding from the American Rescue Plan, or ARPA, and a lead gift of $1.5 million from Dacotah Bank. The Sioux Falls expansion is receiving $2.1 million in federal appropriations funding and $1.2 million from ARPA.
