Medical advances are often made through clinical trials. After a diagnosis, patients can consent to join an available trial and explore new ways to treat their illness. This is standard for specialties like heart, cancer and orthopedics.
But how can advances be made in a specialty like emergency medicine and trauma? Those patients need care immediately and usually can't have a conversation about informed consent and potential clinical trials.
Sanford Health is seeking community input about a trauma clinical study. This study would evaluate whether a certain medication can help keep patients from bleeding out after a traumatic injury.
