404 hospitalized with COVID, 5 more deaths, active infections fall below 35,000

The number of South Dakotans actively infected with COVID-19 is down for a third straight day. That's after several straight weeks of increases.

There are 34,753 people in the state who currently have the disease. Hospitalizations are above 400 again. COVID patients are taking up about 30 percent of the adult ICU beds in the state.

Five more people have died with the disease. The state’s pandemic death toll stands at 2,628.

Vaccination numbers are not changing significantly as the omicron variant of the coronavirus continues to spread. About 57 percent of eligible South Dakotans have received a full vaccine series.

Nearly 200,000 South Dakotans have received a booster.
