14 more COVID deaths, but active infections decline again

COVID-19 is a factor in the deaths of 14 more South Dakotans.

The state’s pandemic death toll is now 2,623.

Meanwhile, the number of South Dakotans actively infected with COVID-19 is down for a second day, after several weeks of increases.

About 35,500 people in the state are known to have the disease currently. Hospitalizations are also down slightly to just below 400.

Vaccination numbers are not changing significantly as the omicron variant of the coronavirus continues to spread. About 57 percent of eligible South Dakotans have received a full vaccine series.
