NOTE: September 7, 2021, numbers reflect data through 1pm on Friday (9/3). Wednesday’s (9/8) Dashboard numbers will include data from Friday (9/3) 1pm through Tuesday (9/7) 1pm.

The state Department of Health reports:

  • New cases: 453
  • State’s death toll: 2,074 (+2 from the previous report)
  • Active cases: 6,182 (+212 from the previous report)
  • Eligible population (12 and older) fully vaccinated: 56.7%
  • Hospitalized: 213 (-17 net from the previous report)

The South Dakota Department of Health says unvaccinated people make up the vast majority of newly reported cases, deaths, and hospitalizations.

The department says, "The more the virus that causes COVID-19 circulates in a community, the more opportunities it has to transform into variants that can spread more easily. Help stop the spread and further mutation of the Coronavirus by getting vaccinated."
