Patients in northeast South Dakota have a new option for joint operations. Avera St. Luke’s in Aberdeen is the first facility in the area to offer robotic orthopedic surgeries.
Total knee replacements are expected to increase by 189% in the next ten years nationwide, according to a statement from Avera. St. Luke’s can now offer robotic knee and hip surgeries.
Dr. Seth Christensen is joining the hospital and offering the new service. In a statement, he says robotics improve surgery planning and precision. He says it can mean less tissue damage and less pain for his patients after surgery.
