Researchers say chronic loneliness is a public health crisis and a national epidemic. It's as life-threatening as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.

We wanted to know more about the impact of loneliness in people's lives, so we reached out to Ann Henkin and Pat Hammond. Henkin is a retired mental health counselor. Hammond is associate pastor of congregational care at First Presbyterian Church in Sioux Falls.
