Tribal nations in South Dakota have some of the highest rates of diabetes in the United States–but new efforts are underway to change that.  Dr. Jeff Henderson is the President and CEO of the Black Hills Center for American Indian Health.

The center is a small community based non-profit research organization headquartered in Rapid City. Dr. Henderson has spent years researching the issue of diabetes in Indian County.  He says while tribal nations have lead the global increase in diabetes, tribes too are leading some major efforts to understand and combat the disease.
