Sanford Health and Utah-based Intermountain Healthcare have suspended their merger indefinitely. The announcement comes after longtime Sanford CEO Kelby Krabbenhoft left the company last week.
Newly-appointed Sanford CEO Bill Gassen says in a statement that it’s time to focus internally. He says the leadership change makes this a time to assess the future of the organization.
Intermountain Healthcare CEO Dr. Marc Harrison was intended to take over leadership of the merged health systems upon Kelby Krabbenhoft’s retirement.
In the same press release, Dr. Harrison says he’s disappointed but understands the recent change has adjusted Sanford’s priorities.
The merger was announced in late October.
