Officials to open valves at Sheridan, Horsethief lakes

Black Hills National Forest officials will temporarily open the dam valves on two lakes Friday, Sept. 8.

Those lakes include both Sheridan and Horsethief lakes.

The public may see increased current and higher than normal water levels downstream.

Officials say exercising the valves should be done annually to ensure they function properly when needed. The valve at Sheridan Lake was last exercised in July of 2020.
