The Great Plains Zoo released an otter after it completed the zoo's wildlife rehab program.

The otter was found in a warehouse in downtown Sioux Falls last spring. South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks placed it with the zoo’s veterinary team.

After undergoing care, the otter was able to eat and swim by itself. The Great Plains Zoo then worked with Game, Fish and Parks to identify a proper release site along the Missouri River.

Great Plains Zoo Veterinary Technician Janelle Brandt encouraged people concerned about injured or orphaned wildlife to call animal control or Game, Fish and Parks.
