South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks are investigating a report of a mountain lion sighting near the east side of the golf course on the edge of Howard, according to a Miner County Sheriff's Office Facebook post.
The sheriff's office asked people to be aware of their surroundings and keep animals secured, especially in the evening to early morning.
They advised not to approach or run from a lion. People should make eye contact with the lion, try to appear as big as possible and pick up any small children that may be with them.
They said this could help convince the mountain lion that the human is not prey and may even be a danger to it.
