Firefighters continue to battle a grass fire near Rapid City.

The fire started 4 miles north of the city on Monday afternoon. By Tuesday afternoon it grew to an estimated 964 acres.

Local, state and federal firefighters are coordinating a large response, including aircraft dumping water and fire retardant. Firefighters are also digging lines around the fire. Some people living near the fire were evacuated.

As of Tuesday morning the blaze was 25 percent contained.

Authorities have not reported any lost structures or injuries so far. They say the fire is human-caused but have not released further details.

Fire danger is expected to remain high in the Black Hills because of an ongoing drought and unseasonably warm weather.
