DOE awards $3.8 million to schools for career and technical education

The Department of Education awarded nearly $3.8 million in grants to four school districts for career and technical education, or CTEc programs.

The recipients include the Huron School District, which received $1.5 million to help purchase two mobile labs supporting CTE programs in several industries.

The Career and Technical Education Academy in Sioux Falls received $1 million to establish an urban agriculture center.

Northeast Technical School in Watertown also received $1 million for courses in health science, agriculture, transportation, and other industries.

Willow Lake received just over $278,000 to support CTE programs between the Clark and Willow Lake School Districts.

"These grants are an investment not only in schools, but in the industries that support the South Dakota communities in which these students live," said South Dakota Sec. of Education Joe Graves.

Senate Bill 59 facilitated the grants, which allocated $5 million for CTE programs throughout the state.
