Archaeology Camp offered in Pierre showcases state and federal partnership

The South Dakota Historic Preservation Office is teaming up with theU.S. Army Corps of Engineers to offer an Archaeology Camp in Pierre this Summer.

Campers will learn the purpose of archeological digs, how to process artifacts, visit historic sites, and practice troughing spears known as Atlatls.

The camp is limited to students in fourth to sixth grade.

Campers will have an active outdoor experience involving hiking and working in dirt. Students will be guided by camp leaders and professional archaeologists.

The Preservation Offices said in previous years, registration was full and closed within 20 minutes of opening. Encouraging those interested to keep registration time and date in mind.

Registration opens May 1st at 8am CT and is limited to the first twenty applicants. More information can be found here.
