The state Board of Regents has named Steve Elliott the twelfth president of Black Hills State University in Spearfish.

The final four candidates had their final interviews on campus this week.

Currently, Elliot works as the vice president of academic affairs at Wayne State College in Nebraska where he has served in a variety of roles since 2003.

A Marine Corps veteran, Elliott holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Maryland. Outside of education, his sculptures and mixed media pieces have been exhibited around the nation.

"I am honored and humbled to accept the position as Black Hills State University's next president," Elliott said. "Black Hills State and the surrounding region have exciting potential. I look forward to working with the State of South Dakota and the communities we serve to develop new academic opportunities, expand partnerships, and continue building Black Hills State University's outstanding reputation. My family and I are truly excited about becoming part of the vibrant and growing Spearfish community."

Elliott begins work at BH Dec. 22.
