The University of South Dakota received over $1 million from the Department of Education to target South Dakota’s early childhood intervention needs.
As part of this effort, a group of faculty members initiated a project to train personnel in caring for youth with disabilities and their families.
The Program for Advancing Childhood Early Intervention, or PACE, Scholars Program will prepare 37 scholars over a five-year period.
“The PACE Scholars Program will bolster important South Dakota workforce development efforts through its financial support of occupational, physical, and speech therapy students, as well as student audiologists,” said Patti Berg-Poppe, the scholarship’s program director.
Scholars will then enter the early childhood intervention workforce ready to assist infants and toddlers with special needs disabilities.
