Drag shows are back on at South Dakota campuses for the first time since the implementation of the “minors on campus” events policy.

The policy from the Board of Regents was initiated last year after questions were asked about the appropriateness of a “family-friendly” drag show at SDSU.

Drag shows have happened on South Dakota college campuses since the early 1990s, according to the USD Spectrum chapter.

During the last legislative session some lawmakers angled to prohibit drag shows from campuses entirely. That proposal was killed during session and stirred anger on campuses among some student groups.

The Argus Leader reports over 100 people, all over the age of 18, attended the show in Vermillion without any incident.
