South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley wants congress to fund youth hunting, archery, and firearms safety courses.
He joins 23 other state Attorneys General in the request.
They sent a letter to Congress opposing the Department of Education’s interpretation of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. The department prohibits the use of school funding to pay for hunting or firearms safety courses based on the act.
In the letter, the group argues that not funding such programs for youth will lead to more instances of children acting recklessly around firearms.
