Mitchell voters handily approve school bond issue

South Dakota Department of Tourism

Voters in Mitchell widely approved a $17 million issue for the local school.

This opens the door for improvements to athletic facilities including gyms and locker rooms, and would be a 55,000 square foot addition to the growing community’s school.

The biggest of those gyms will be able to fit 2,300 people. Other spaces will be used for everything from competitive dance to weightlifting.

Eighty-two percent of district voters approved the measure, handily clearing the 60 percent hurdle needed for approval.

The current construction estimate sees students using the new facilities as early as the 2025-26 school year.
