The Brookings School District is one of three South Dakota schools to be cleared of probationary status after it received accreditation through the 2027-28 school year.
The South Dakota Department of Education placed the district on probationary status earlier this year.
District officials did not specify what led to probation, but it was announced at the same time as the resignation of Superintendent Klint Willert.
Documents show a poor written evaluation for Willert dated March 8. Brookings school board president Keli Books said she was informed of the district’s probation status via certified letter March 10.
Willert’s resignation is effective in June, and the board has begun the process of searching for his replacement.
Across the state, the Wall School District and Flandreau Indian School have also both cleared probationary status.
