One of the South Dakota’s federal judge vacancies is now filled.
The U.S. Senate approved the nomination of Eric Schulte to U.S. District Court in a 61-33 vote Wednesday.
The vote was the final step to give Schulte, a Sioux Falls attorney, a lifetime appointment to the court. He fills the position held by judge Karen Schreier, who is retiring.
The nominee for the state’s other opening, Camela Theeler, still awaits a vote on the Senate floor. That’s expected to come sometime this week.
